Tom and Ben - Cumbria

Set under a canopy of burgundy, gold and deep green, this Autumn wedding in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside is one that will be close to my heart, always.

With a super stylish brief of jewel like tones and textures in abundance, designing the florals for Tom and Ben’s day was a complete joy. Captured to perfection by Esme Whiteside Photography I was utterly speechless when I saw the images.

The weeks leading up to the wedding were spent drying textural elements in the workshop to add to the arch and mix in with the fresh flowers, to give added dimension.

The floral mix was a flourish of the most sought after roses including the perfect Toffee Rose, Westminster Abbey, Quicksand, and Cappuccino along with burnt rust tones, and deep sumptuous burgundy. I wanted to add tiny pops of hot pink and a brighter red to contrast the foliage in the arch, with soft transitional colours of caramel and nude blush. Texture upon texture was created by mixing flowers of varying sizes and tones within the same palette. I used classic autumnal Hydranges, this time of year makes these versatile flowers almost ombré on the petals which is just divine.

I used a mixture of grasses, British foliage, Seasonal Dahlias, Roses, Snaps, Rose Hips, Spray Roses, dried and preserved textures in the arch. I wanted the structure to feel at one with the scenery of the Hidden River Cabins, and the nature surrounding the space so I made the shape relaxed in its form and the ratio of the colours to reflect the change in seasons. With small touches of the yellow and oranges to honour that of the trees behind. All foam free, this arch was the most stunning backdrop to the ceremony.

The bouquet was finished with the most luxurious ribbon from ‘Bertie and Fred’ I have ever used. Hand dyed to the most perfect rust tone it complemented the florals perfectly.

The tables were dressed with bud vases and foliage along with brass and gold accents and the soft hue of candlelight, a wonderful option I always love when using trestle tables.

This intimate wedding was a day full of love for two absolutely beautiful gentlemen who could not be more deserving of such a special day. A real showcase of how an autumnal wedding should be approached.
